Cabrillo College Trustee Wins ACCT 2007 Pacific Region Trustee Leadership Award

APTOS, CA—The Association for Community College Trustees (ACCT) will award its prestigious 2007 Pacific Region Trustee Leadership Award to Rebecca Garcia, Cabrillo College Trustee for Area V, during its forthcoming Annual Congress on September 27 in San Diego.

"It is the greatest honor to be recognized by my fellow trustees in the Pacific Region as the recipient of this award, ” declares Garcia, “My leadership in community college has been attained because of the mentoring and support I've received from many. To them I say, ‘thank you.’"

Trustees for the Pacific Region award are nominated from community colleges located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, British Columbia, and Yukon Territory. Regional award winners are chosen based upon an extensive set of criteria such as their contributions to innovative programs, service on technical and special committees, the degree to which they have influenced state and national legislation, their leadership in solving the challenges community colleges face, their active participation in developing, organizing and supporting community college associations and the presentations they’ve given or articles they’ve published that support community college education.

“Rebecca has been an outstanding asset to Cabrillo College and the community,” stated Dr. Brian King, President and Superintendent of Cabrillo College. “She is passionate and completely committed to helping people from all walks of life create a better quality of life through higher education. We are so delighted she won this award.”

Garcia is the senior member of the Cabrillo College Governing Board, having served Area V for the past 15 years. She is also a Cabrillo College graduate who went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from UCSC.

The regional award makes Garcia, and her fellow regional award winners,eligible for the M. Dale Ensign National Trustee Leadership Award. The winner of this award will also be announced for the first time at the ACCT Annual Congress Awards Gala on September 28.
