Press Releases 2008 CONTACT: Jana Marcus, Marketing & Communications CABRILLO STAGE HOLDS OPEN CASTING CALL FOR 2008 REPERTORY SEASON Aptos, CA— Cabrillo Stage is proud to announce open call auditions for its Summer 2008 Repertory Season. This summer Cabrillo Stage will perform two musical favorites, Jesus Christ Superstar on the mainstage from July 11 to August 17, and Forever Plaid, June 27 to July 27, in the Cabrillo Erica Schilling Forum. Jesus Christ Superstar, the groundbreaking theatrical masterpiece by the legendary writing team of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, is one of the most popular and enduring works ever created for the musical theatre. Featuring such notable songs as Superstar, Everything's Alright and I Don't Know How to Love Him, this rock opera earned five Tony nominations as well as several Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations. Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of the final seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth, dramatizing Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, the unrest caused by his preaching and popularity, his betrayal by Judas, the trial before Pontius Pilate, and his ultimate crucifixion. Perpetually changing the face of musical theatre, Jesus Christ Superstar always leave audiences captivated by its power. Forever Plaid is a deliciously goofy revue, which centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950s, on the way to their first big concert, and are miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was. Singing in the closest of harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision, the “Plaids” are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they're not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the '50s, such as Three Coins in The Fountain, Chain Gang, and Catch a Falling Star. Auditions will take place at the Cabrillo College theater on Saturday and Sunday, March 8 and 9. You must attend both the vocal and dance audition calls on either day. Vocal call is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Dance call from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m., on both Saturday and Sunday. Auditions are on a first-come, first-served basis. Bring sheet music in your key; accompanist will be provided. A cappella or tape accompaniment is not acceptable. A memorized monologue, not to exceed two minutes, MAY BE requested for speaking roles. In addition, some actors may be asked to do cold readings. Dress appropriately for dance auditions. AEA contracts considered.
