Press Releases 2008 CONTACT: Jana Marcus, Marketing & Communications CABRILLO PHOTOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT PRESENTS STUDENT WORK Aptos, CA—The Cabrillo College Photography Department presents Lens Flair, the first off-campus gallery exhibition of student works ranging from digital to traditional photographic processes. The large exhibit will be displayed in two downtown Santa Cruz galleries simultaneously: The Mill Gallery and The Dead Cow Gallery. Reception for Lens Flair will be Thursday, April 4 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in both locations concurrently. Lens Flair will showcase student work ranging from beginning to advanced photographic techniques in both digital and traditional methods. The exhibit celebrates the photographic and artistic excellence of the students, as well as awakening interest in the new photographic facilities of Cabrillo’s Arts Education Classrooms. Photography will be among the first departments who are currently scheduled to teach in the new facility in fall 2008. The impressive new photographic space includes a complete traditional wet darkroom for black and white and color printing, a lighting studio, and a large digital photography workflow area, where students will learn techniques that take them from camera to computer to printer. The department also teaches alternative processes and a potpourri of techniques that are available during the school year as well as summer sessions. The Lens Flair exhibit will be part of the First Friday Art Tour, sponsored by the Santa Cruz Institute of Contemporary Arts. For a donation of $5 you receive unlimited rides on the Art Tour Bus, which takes you to gallery openings spanning Highway 9 to lower Front Street. Your $5 also entitles you to a certificate for 10% off the purchase of original art on First Fridays and a host of offers and discounts by participating sponsors.
