Aptos, CA— The Picasso Ensemble will perform a celebratory concert in honor of their 10 years of repertoire collaboration. The concert, Sunday, April 20, will be performed at historic Sesnon House on the Cabrillo College campus and will feature several pieces including:

Quinteto Concertante by Nelhybel, a joyful piece with fluid sounds and rhythmic percussion that reveal Nelhybel’s mastery of orchestration.  A three-movement Trio by Germaine Tailleferre, which is rich with poignant melodies that unfolds with harmonic texture. Excerpts from Bruch’s Eight Pieces, are romantic that bathes the soul in rich melodies and harmonies.  Breakdown Tango by Mackey, from his orchestral piece Redline Tango, opens with relentless 16th notes in different patterns and then moves into a slow tango that showcases the dance form. For Lou, by Rick Kvistad, is a nod to his mentor Lou Harrison and beautifully compliments the instrumental colors of the chamber quintet.

Featured performers are Susan C. Brown (violin/viola); Josephine Gandolfi (piano); Victoria Ehrlich (cello); Tony Striplen (clarinet); and Rick Kvistad (percussion).
