Aptos, CA —It has become tradition that the season finale concert for the Ensemble Monterey Chamber  Orchestra combines forces with Cabrillo’s celebrated vocal ensemble, Cantiamo!

This season the musical partnership presents, “The Ecstasies Above,” a concert of masterworks for string orchestra and chorus. The featured composition will be the West Coast premiere of Tarick O’Regan’s The Ecstasies Above. Based on the Edgar Allen Poe poem, The Ecstasies Above premiered last year at Yale University and was an instant sensation.

The concert will also include John Corrigliano’s Fern Hill, a beautiful and lyrical approach to the Dylan Thomas poem; Carl Nielsen’s Little Suite for Strings and Cecil Effinger’s Four Pastorales, featuring Oboist Angie Burtz.  The concert will be conducted by John Anderson, and special guest conductor Cheryl Anderson, one of this year’s Gail Rich Award winners.
There are two opportunities to catch this wonderful evening of music: Saturday, April 26th at Monterey’s Golden State Theater, and again on Sunday, April 27th at the First Congregational Church in Santa Cruz. “Insights from the Conductor,” a free talk and audience reception, is presented one hour before each concert.
