Cabrillo Gallery Highlights New Work of Instructor Gordon Hammer
Reception: Thursday, October 16, 2008, 4:30 – 6:30PM at the Cabrillo College Gallery

APTOS, CA— Cabrillo College Gallery presents The Voyage Home, the sabbatical exhibition of Cabrillo College photography instructor Gordon Hammer.

Inspired by archetypal stories from Greek and Roman mythology, The Voyage Home is a multimedia installation that integrates photographic images, video, poetry, sound and sculptural elements.

“We get lost, we struggle against ourselves, we find ourselves anew,” says Gordon Hammer of his latest artwork. “The Voyage Home is about the things that lead us astray on our great journey, and the return to forgiveness and compassion.”

Gordon Hammer is a visual and sound artist as well as accomplished fine art photographer. His recent output has expanded to include assemblage, electronic music composition, video, and installation art. His photographs have been exhibited nationally at venues including the Monterey Peninsula Museum of Art, Light Factory, Print Club, ASA Gallery, Lubbock Fine Arts Center, Pajaro Valley Arts Council, Cabrillo Gallery, and the Santa Cruz Mountain Art Center, and published in “Alchemy and Photography,” 6th ed. by Phil Davis. He has taught photography for over 25 years and currently co-directs the Art Photography program at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California.
