Press Releases 2009 CONTACT: Jana Marcus, Marketing & Communications Cabrillo College's Distinguished Artists Concert & Lecture Series "Amit Peled has the flair of the young Rostroprovich." - American Record Guild Aptos, CA--The Cabrillo College Distinguished Artist Concert & Lecture series is honored to present renowned Israeli cellist Amit Peled, accompanied by Eli Kalman on Piano, March 21 at the Cabrillo Theater at 8:00 P.M. From the United States to Europe, the Middle East and Asia, Amit Peled is acclaimed as a musician of profound artistry and one of the most exciting cellists on the concert stage today. Mr. Peled performs as a soloist and with orchestras around the world playing a rare Andrea Guarneri cello, circa 1689. Being one of the youngest cello professors in the United States, Peled joined the distinguished faculty of the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, in September, 2003. Mr. Peled is a frequent guest artist, performing and conducting master classes at prestigious music festivals such as the Marlboro Music Festival, Newport Music Festival, Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Gotland Festival in Sweden, Prussia Cove Festival in England, The Violoncello Congress in Spain, and the Kfar Blum Music Festival in Israel, to name only a few. Peled’s new CD, “The Jewish Soul”, will be released this spring on Centaur Records. As an advocate of Israeli music, Peled has recently released the “Cello Concerto” by Mark Kopytman with the Tel Aviv Soloists under the JMC label and later this season will premier a concerto dedicated to him by Israeli composer Erel Paz with conductor Ilan Volkov. Accompaning Peled is pianist Eli Kalman, who has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in Romania, Israel, Germany, Hungary, Canada and the United States. Hailing from Israel, Kalman was the recipient of the Paul Collins Wisconsin Distinguished Graduate Fellowship for Excellence at UW-Madison. He has been an enthusiastic artist in-residence at the Chamber Music Festival at Banff, Canada, the Token Creek Festival, the Emmanuel Music-Schumann Chamber Series in Boston, the Connoisseur Series at Wichita State University and as a part of the acclaimed Myra Hess Memorial concerts in Chicago, with cellist Amit Peled. In 2001, Kalman recorded the works for solo piano and cello by Erwin Junger and lately Robert Schumann’s “Sonatas for Violin and Piano” with violinist Rose Mary Harbison.
