Press Releases 2009 CONTACT: Jana Marcus, Marketing & Communications CABRILLO COLLEGE OPENS NEW MUSIC RECITAL HALL WITH HANDEL’S MESSIAH Aptos, CA— Cabrillo College will open it’s doors of the new Music Recital Hall to the public with a premiere performance by Choral Director Cheryl Anderson’s choirs performing Handel’s Messiah, along with opening remarks by Carillo College president Brian King and Dean of Visual and Performing Arts, Dan Martinez. When Cabrillo College was founded 50 years ago, the first chorus group chose to mark what would be an historic event by performing Handel’s famous oratorio, Messiah. Georg Frederick Handel died 250 years ago, and in summer 2009, the Cabrillo Choruses were chosen to sing the commemorative performance of Messiah in Dublin, Ireland, the city where Messiah originally premiered, in Christ Church. The Cabrillo College Choirs and soloists traveled throughout Ireland, performing in the Cathedrals of Dublin, Gallway, and Killarney. On October 18th the choirs will perform the masterwork again to mark the opening of the new Music Recital Hall. The Cabrillo Choruses have traveled throughout the world, giving concerts in the great concerts hall and Cathedrals. Director Cheryl Anderson and the choirs believe in investing in the growth of music in our community by commissioning musical compositions, sponsoring a Visiting Artists Program, supporting a healthy Scholarship Program, as well as bringing to life the great masterworks of choral literature. What: Premiere of Cabrillo College Music Recital Hall When: Sunday, October 18, 4:00 PM Tickets: $20 at the door. Proceeds benefit the Student Scholarship Fund. Info: 479-6464
