UC General Education

At any campus of the University of California, you have two options:
  1. You may satisfy the general education or breadth requirements of the specific campus to which you plan to transfer OR,

  2. You may complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) which is accepted at all campuses in the UC or CSU systems.
Note: IGETC is not recommended for some high unit majors and at some campuses. To check to see if IGETC is accepted for your major or campus—check the ASSIST-Exploring Majors feature at www.assist.org. Choose Exploring Majors then your transfer campus then your major and information on IGETC's use will be displayed.

If you select option #1; read the appropriate UC Catalog and consult a Cabrillo College counselor.
Note: we have campus specific general education agreements for several UC campuses–see www.assist.org.

If you select option #2, follow the guidelines on the IGETC (Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum.) This is the best choice if you plan to apply for admission to more than one campus of the University of California. If you select IGETC, you must complete all requirements prior to transfer or you will be required to meet the lower–division general education requirements of the transfer campus. This may lengthen your education unnecessarily. Cabrillo offers a Transferable AA degree that follows the IGETC–When you complete this AA degree, you have fulfilled the IGETC as well as the admissions requirements to transfer. This is the pattern for transfer and an AA degree––if you do not want to receive an AA, you do not need to complete the multi-cultural requirement listed on this degree.
