Hi, I'm Johanna Bowen the Cabrillo College Library Director.  I'm here to introduce you to both the Library and to the separate learning centers available in Building 1000 on our campus.  You can find the library by walking to the Soquel side of Building 1000 and entering through the sliding doors.  Here you can get your library card, talk to a librarian about your information needs, browse the bookshelves, and read magazines and newspapers.

The library also provides you with access to a wide range of online services from fulltext articles to electronic versions of books. You can use any of our electronic services from workstations here in the library any time the library is open.  You can also use these online resources from your own computer once you have a library card.  The library card is free, and you can apply for it online from the library homepage at libwww.cabrillo.edu.

Building 1000 also has a large number of other services for students.  On the terrace level, facing the ocean, below the  library's front doors you will find the Assessment Center and the Cabrillo Gallery.

Behind the library there is a breezeway with vending machines, and a great open access computer lab where you can type up your papers and homework and have access to a variety of software and printing facilities.

Above the Open Access lab (behind the library) there is an area known as the  Learning Center which is filled with very special services for students.  There is a Writing Center which can help you with paper writing, a Math Learning Center where tutors work with any math course offered at Cabrillo, a Reading Center where you can improve your reading skills for college level work, a Tutorials center where you can register for a free tutor for material in almost all of the  courses taught at Cabrillo, a language lab with tapes and equipment to support foreign language courses, an English as a Second Language lab which supports courses for students whose first language is not English, and a Skills Center where students can arrange for testing to identify learning disabilities.

Building 1000 is a concentration of services for the active student at Cabrillo.
