Q.

What is the Cabrillo Access Card?

A.
Recently Cabrillo partnered with Higher One to provide students with options for receiving their refunds or financial aid disbursements. The Cabrillo Access Card provides students with the option of a free checking account with a debit card, or direct deposit to their own bank accounts. If they do not want either of these, they will continue to receive a traditional check.

Q.

I got an email from Cabrillo about the new Access Card, but I haven’t received a card; where’s my card?

A.
The email from Cabrillo to all students was to let everyone know about this program. It does not mean an Access Card has been sent to you, although you may receive a card in the future.

Q.

I got an email from Higher One that says they mailed a card to me; now what?

A.
The email will tell you when to expect to receive the card, and it will confirm the address the card was mailed to. If this address is correct, you should receive the card soon. If the address is wrong, or it has been several weeks and you still have not received the card, please call or come to the College Bank.

Q.

I got my card, now where’s my money?

A.
The card was sent to you in anticipation that you may receive money in the future. If you do receive money, you will receive another email telling you have money and the amount. If you have not already activated your card, the email will remind you to do that.

Q.

I got the card; how do I activate it?

A.
The card comes with instructions and directs to you CabrilloAccessCard.com where you can activate your card. There is online help to walk you through the steps and choices. If you have trouble with the activation, come by the College Bank and we will help you do it.

Q.

Why did you give my information to Higher One?

A.
Higher One is a well-respected banking institution that specializes in disbursing money to college students. We researched them thoroughly and believe they will provide valuable options to our students that are far better than the traditional paper checks we have been using.

Q.

I don’t want to activate their card; how can I get my money?

A.
You have the option of having your money deposited to your own checking or savings account. The CabrilloAccessCard.com website will walk you through the steps to set that up. Don’t forget to print the authorization page and send that to Higher One in order to complete the process.

Q.

I don’t want to do anything; what will happen?

A.
Each time Higher One receives money for you they will send you an email reminding you to activate your card. They will wait 21 days and if you still have not activated it, they will mail you a check.

Q.

I got an email saying I was receiving money but I haven’t received it – what should I do?

A.
Contact CabrilloAccessCard.com to check on the status of your refund.

Q.

I didn’t receive an email but I think I should be getting money – how do I find out?

A.
Financial Aid can tell you if you have been approved, and the College Bank can tell you if you have a credit balance on your account, either because you dropped or overpaid your fees.

Q.

I paid my fees with a credit card and now I’ve dropped classes so I am due a refund. Will that money come to me through the Cabrillo Access Card?

A.
If your credit card payment was recent, and that payment is the reason for the refund, the money will be refunded back to your credit card. In that case it will not go to the Cabrillo Access Card.

Q.

Higher One says my date of birth is wrong and I can’t access my account information. How did this happen? What do I do?

A.
The file that Cabrillo sends to Higher One has the student date of birth that is listed in the student records within Datatel. This is the date of birth Higher One uses for the student until the student signs in to activate their account. At that time, the student enters their date of birth and if it is different, Higher One’s records are changed.

If the student mistypes their date of birth it is now wrong in Higher One’s records. If the student later tries to make a change on their account, such as change or reset the password, they will be asked to verify their date of birth. They will enter their correct date of birth, it won’t match the earlier mistyped date of birth, and they will not be allowed to proceed. To fix it, the student can mail or fax their birth certificate or government issued ID to Higher One. The administrator (Shelley West) can also contact Higher One by phone and get it changed that way. If a student comes to you in this situation, please notify Shelley via email at studentaccounts@cabrillo.edu and she will fix it.

Q.

I activated my Cabrillo Access Card and now the card has been lost or stolen – what should I do?

A.
Log on to CabrilloAccessCard.com or call them at 866-629-4216 to report your card lost or stolen. Your account will be frozen, a new card will be mailed to you and you will be charged $20 for the replacement card. Don’t forget to activate your new card as soon as you receive it.
