Adding and Dropping Classes/Late Adds 1.1

Near the beginning of each Schedule of Classes is a calendar that details important dates, including deadlines for students to add and drop classes.

Generally speaking the student has the first two weeks of classes to add a class. During the 3rd week of classes, there is a form that can be picked up at A & R that will allow the student to do a late "add" into the class. The form requires instructor and dean signatures. The form also states that the student needs to have been in attendance since the beginning of the class.

Short-term courses that are "late starting" can be added up to the first class meeting, providing there is room in the class. Students add late starting classes by going to A & R prior to the start of the class or by getting an add slip from the instructor. If the students gets an add slip directly from the instructor of the late starting class, they should process it at A & R the first day of the class.

To add a class during late registration (1st 2 weeks of each semester), students get an “Add Slip” from the instructor of the class. The student then submits this add slip, along with a "Program Change" form, to A & R. During the first two weeks of classes, A & R will process add and drop forms at the Fireside Lounge (900 building). Beyond this initial add period, petitions are processed at A & R in the 100 building.

Students can drop classes via Halk Talk. Generally speaking students have the first two weeks of classes to drop without penalty. If they drop within the time period specified in the Schedule of Classes, they will receive a refund. The calendar in the Schedule of Classes details the various drop deadlines beyond the first two weeks, as well as the consequences and requirements of dropping after this initial two-week period. Short-term courses have their own drop deadlines. Students should consult A & R regarding the deadlines for dropping such courses. Instructor permission is not required to drop a class.
