Unit Definitions 2.16
During orientations counselors define "units" to students as follows:

1 unit = one hour per week of in class time + two hours of out-of-class preparation.

On Cabrillo's transcripts the following terminology is used: Units Attempted and Units Completed.

Units Attempted refers to those units that will be counted as a part of the students Grade Point Average. It includes units from courses in which the student received letter grades. It does not include units from "CR" courses.

Units Completed includes units from letter graded courses in which the student received a "D" grade or better. It also includes units from "CR" courses.

GPA is calculated with the following formula: GPA = Grade Points divided by Units Attempted.

It is important to note that Financial Aid uses the terminology "units attempted" in a very different way than is used on our transcripts. Financial Aid keeps track of a true unit attempted figure that includes every course that a student has enrolled in. In the financial aid definition of units attempted, all courses, regardless of grades, are included in the total.
