Academic Renewal 3.1
As per the Cabrillo catalog:A student may request that his/her record be reviewed for academic renewal by the Academic Council under the following conditions:
- Two years have elapsed since the substandard grades were awarded (Substandard grades are defined as "D," "F," or "NC."
- The student has subsequently completed 12 units of letter-graded work with a 3.0 grade point average or 24 units of letter-graded work with a 2.0 grade point average.
- Not more than 30 units may be renewed.
- A prerequisite course in a sequence of courses within a discipline for which the subsequent course has been completed with a satsfactory grade may not be renewed.
If a student qualifies for Academic Renewal as outlined in the Catalog, s/he can petition to have their transcript indicate the Academic Renewal by completing the standard A & R petition with the help of a counselor. We can use coursework from other colleges in meeting the "subsequent unit" criteria listed in the catalog.
- Determine if student qualifies under the conditions outlined in the catalog.
- Have the student fill out the top part of the petition.
- In the explanation section indicate that the student meets the criteria outlined in the catalog. Specify which classes the student is seeking academic renewal for, and the term those classes were taken.
- Sign and date in the Counselor Recommendation section.
- Print a transcript to submit with the petition form. If coursework from another college is used to meet the criteria, submit a copy of the transcript with the petition.
- Copy the petition and transcripts for the student’s file.
- Submit the petition form and transcripts to Cheryl in A & R. Typically, A & R will have this change made to the students record in 3 to 4 weeks. If the change is needed within a certain timeline, please let Cheryl know this when submitting the petition.
