Petitions to Academic Council 3.4

There may be times when a student wants to challenge a specific Cabrillo policy. This could include, but not be limited to, policies relating to degree requirements, GPA calculations, etc

If a student wants to appeal a particular policy, s/he needs to fill out a standard green "Cabrillo College Petition Form". They should mention any special circumstances that should be taken into consideration as a part of their petition

On behalf of the student, counselors forward the petition to Gloria Garing, Director of Admissions and Records, who will respond according to the type of petition. In some cases she may bring the petition to the Academic Council. At other times she may convene a committee or consult with others in making a decision. Academic Council meets every other Monday afternoon during both fall and spring semesters

The counselor can act as an advocate for the student to whatever extent s/he supports the student’s petition. On the petition itself, indicate whether you as the counselor support the petition, do not support the petition, or are indifferent about the petition.
