Advisory Committees 4.2
Each Cabrillo College occupational program has an advisory committee, comprised of program Director and faculty, other Cabrillo personnel, and representatives from industries and agencies. Counselors assigned to the occupational cluster containing that program act as liaisons to that program, and at least one counselor from the occupational cluster must attend the advisory committee meetings, normally held once per academic year. Information is obtained about upcoming program and curriculum changes, career paths and opportunities, and other issues pertinent to advisement of students regarding these programs. The counselor is then responsible for dissemination of this information at the Counseling Division Meeting.

The office of Occupational and Community Development distributes a list of upcoming advisory committee meetings early each semester. It is the responsibility of each Counseling Cluster chairperson to coordinate and evenly distribute attendance at these meetings.

Counselors may also sit on advisory committees for special programs such as Reentry Services, EOP&S and Transfer Center. These programs usually hold meetings once per semester, and generally include campus faculty and administrators, community members and students. Participation on advisory committees is an opportunity to have input in program development and to learn more about how students’ needs are met by these programs.
