Each semester, contract regular counselors are assigned to work the five days prior to the start of the regular contract academic year, informally referred to as "Per Diem Week". These five days, a total of 31 hours, are compensated at the contract daily rate of pay, determined by dividing the counselor’s annual salary by 175, the number of regular days in the contract year.If a counselor misses one or more days of work during this time, either due to illness or by prior arrangement with the Division Chair, the counselor will not be paid for those days. Sick leave or other paid leave is not available for these non-contract days.
It is important that the counselor fill out the Cabrillo College Temporary Hourly Employee Time Card by the end of Per Diem Week. This is a blue half sheet normally available in the faculty lounge or the Division office; although the Division Assistant usually distributes them, it is counselors’ responsibility to complete and return the time cards to the Division Chair. The time card must be received by the 19th of the month to be paid at the end of that month, and the pay is added to the regular monthly contract pay.
