Storing Your Files
Can I store my files on the computers in the CTC and in student classroom labs?
No, your work will be deleted from your computer when you log off or restart. You must store your work on removable media. Please note that not all lab computers have the same storage devices. Only the Windows computers have floppy drives. There are zip drives on some Mac and some Windows computers. There are CDRW drives on all CTC computers, but not on all student classroom lab computers. There are DVD-RW drives on some Mac and Windows computers. We highly recommend USB thumb drives. USB thumb drives can be used on all computers in the CTC and on student classroom lab computers. A student network folder is provided to store your work. Please make backups of your work in case the network storage drives fail.
How do I store files in my student network folder?
On Windows computers, double-click the star icon on your desktop to open your student folder. If you don't see a star icon on your desktop you can access it through the start menu in Student Folders. On a Mac, your folder is in the Student Folder icon on the desktop.
How do I get a network folder?
You automatically get a network folder with your network account.
Where can I access my network folder?
You can get to files in your Student Folder from any Windows or Mac computer that you log into the Student or Staff domain. It isn't available off-campus or from the Hawknet network.
Who can use my network folder?
No other students have access to your folder but you. Be sure to read the text file we put in your student folder. It contains the rules for using it. We reserve the right to remove any non-school-related files. Don't use your student folder to copy music, pornography, licensed programs, or video files from the Internet. These infractions can cause you to lose your computer account. Your student folders are erased after the end of the semester.
What happens if a virus is found in my network folder?
If we find a virus in your Student Folder, we will attempt to clean infected files. If we can't, we will be forced to delete the infected ones. We'll place a virus alert notice in your folder telling you what virus we found and what files it affected. Since you may have copied the infected files to one of your floppies or CDs, we urge you to use our virus scanning software in the lab to scan for viruses.
