Using Laptops On Hawknet In The CTC
Hawknet Open Access Wireless
Cabrillo's IT department built HawkNet with the expectation of "Cafe-Level Support." Just like in your favorite internet cafe, wireless signal is provided and the rest is up to you.
Is this going to cost me anything?
No, Hawknet is a free service provided by Cabrillo College to its Staff and Students.
How do I get a Login and Password?
To sign up, go to the Library or CTC (1400 building in Aptos), or the CTC in Watsonville. If you are Faculty or Staff, simply use your email/network login username and password.

How do I know if I am connected?
You will see this screen when you try to browse the web:
What type of hardware do I need?
A wireless card or built-in wireless for your laptop that handles the 802.11b or 802.11g protocols. Some areas on campus also support the 802.11a protocol.
Is Hawknet a secure wireless network?
It's up to you. This is an open public network. Other people can potentially see what you do online while using Hawknet. For this reason, we strongly encourage the use of secure network protocols and recommend using website addresses that start with "https://". It is vital that you take steps to protect your personal information. Additionally, make sure that your anti-virus and spyware removal programs are up-to-date.
