Once your site has been created, you will receive an email from the TLC with access information.

Where can I learn more about Blackboard and teaching online?

Complete the Online Workshops (facilitated or self-paced) available through @ONE at http://www.cccone.org/de/index.htm

  • Introduction to Teaching with Blackboard CE 6
  • Introduction to Online Teaching and Learning
  • Dreamweaver

These workshops are well worth the time investment to get your online teaching experience off to a good start. You will save much time in your development process and create a course that is more enjoyable to teach and more enjoyable to attend.

What should I do before the Semester starts (other than get my class ready)?

Contact Masinafanaae Hunnicutt, Assistant Director of Admissions & records at (831) 477-3548 to learn the latest procedures for adding online students, what forms/rosters you will need to complete and how they'll get to you, and other important information that will make your job easier.

How will my students log-In?

Student username convention: First 2 letters of their first name in capital letters, first 4 letters of their last name in capital letters, and last 4 digits of their datatell student ID (not social security number)

Example: For the student John Sutter (datatel ID = 123456) the username would be josutt3456.

My student is unable to access the class, what do I do?

If your students are unable to access Blackboard please confirm each of the items below prior to directing them to the TLC:

  1. They are enrolled in your course. You can confirm this by logging into Blackboard as yourself and going to Teach Mode >Grade Book
  2. They are using the correct username (see username conventions above).
  3. They are using the right password. Passwords are set by clicking on the Lookup username and password link on the Blackboard login page.

My student forget his password, what do I do?

We cannot look up a student's password. If they have forgotten it, they must change their password in Blackboard:

  1. Go to https://online.cabrillo.edu
  2. Click on the Lookup username and password link.
  3. Enter in requested information, which includes a new password.
  4. Submit.
  5. Remind students they can change that password to something they prefer but THEY MUST WRITE THAT PASSWORD DOWN someplace so they can find it next time.

Can I create a student account in Blackboard?

Faculty cannot create Student Accounts in Blackboard. Only our Blackboard hosting institution administrator can create student accounts.

At the beginning of a term and every few days during the Add period, Computing Resources sends us a spreadsheet of students who have officially registered for the class. That list is processed in the TLC and sent to our Blackboard host who creates the accounts. This process takes 2-3 business days so students who Add the class must wait a few days for their accounts to be created.
