Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology is hardware or software designed to make it possible for a person to access computer technology who otherwise would not be able to or who would be severely limited. For example, a person with repetitive strain injury and wrist pain who finds a standard keyboard and mouse inaccessible would choose assistive technology - in this example, speech recognition software. Most computer classrooms and labs have accessibility features, including large monitors and ZoomText. If you need a specific assistive technology accommodation for a course, please contact the ASC at (831) 479-6379 or (831) 479-6370.

What Assistive Technology is Available?

  • ClaroRead for reading exams aloud

  • Word processor with MS Word and spell check (if appropriate)

  • Closed Circuit Television (CCTV)

  • Dragon Naturally Speaking

  • JAWS screenreader

  • ZoomText screen enlargement software
