Board of Governor's Enrollment Fee Waiver (BOG)

The Board of Governor's Enrollment Fee Waiver waives the unit enrollment fee at Communtiy Colleges for California residents, including high school students so that the cost of enrollment is not a barrier. BOG eligibility is based on financial need and is not affected by academic progress.

BOG recipients pay $20 per semester for a parking permit. BOG does not cover bus pass fees. Bus passes may be obtained for $55 per semester.

The BOG is not a cash award and does not cover other educational expenses.

Financial Aid Programs

Financial aid is used to pay for mandatory fees, books, transportation, room and board and other educational expenses while attending Cabrillo. Awards are contingent upon the availability of funds. If funds are insufficient, Cabrillo College reserves the right to adjust financial aid awards as necessary.

Federal Family Educational Loans

Loans must be repaid! Cabrillo recommends that students borrow only when it is absolutely necessary. Students who are planning to transfer should be aware that loans are generally the largest portion of a financial aid package at four year colleges and should consider total educational indebtedness before borrowing at Cabrillo.

Subsidized Stafford Loan
This loan has a fixed interest rate. Funds are provided by a lender such as a bank or credit union. The federal government pays the interest during in-school, grace, and deferment periods. The interest rate for the 2006-07 school year is 6.8%.

Unsubsidized Stafford Loan
The federal government does not pay the interest on this loan. Interest accrues immediately after disbursement. This loan has the same in-school fixed interest rate as the Subsidized loan.

Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS)
This loan allows parents without adverse credit history to borrow up to the total cost of their dependent student's education, minus any other aid received by the student.

Cabrillo Loan Application Process

To take out a student loan, you must complete these steps each school year:

  • Complete your financial aid file (Click here for more info on completing your file.)
  • Attend an Entrance Loan Workshop (Sign-up REQUIRED. Click here for dates and times.)
  • Complete a Loan Request Packet (Loan packets are given at the workshops).
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP),
