join us for Chalk-It-Up: a sidewalk chalk mural drawing event.
In an effort to raise community awareness about sexual abuse and
offer support resources, our theme will focus on the elements of
healthy relationships.
Everyone is invited to participate No previous art experience is
necessary
ENTRY IS FREE INDIVIDUAL or GROUP ENTRIES WELCOME
GREAT PRIZES!
Pastel chalks will be given to each participant on the day of the
event

THEME:
April is Sexual Abuse Awareness Month. Sexual violence is a widespread
problem throughout our society today as it affects individuals of
all ages, ethnicities, and experiences. There are many different
forms of sexual violence, each having a profoundly negative impact
on the survivor. In an effort towards prevention of sexual violence
and abuse, the focus or theme of our Chalk-It-Up event is healthy
relationship:
What does a healthy relationship look like?
" What is consent?
" Does a healthy relationship look and feel the same way all
the time?
" How do I know if my relationship is healthy?
" What can I do to make my relationship healthier?
" What does a healthy relationship feel like?
" What does a healthy relationship look like?
Some key ingredients of a healthy relationship include
" Acceptance
" Affection
" Communication
" Compassion/Forgiveness
" Dependability
" Freedom
" Honesty
" Patience
" Romance
" Sense of humor

GUIDELINES:
1. Pre-registration is encouraged. To pre-register, stop by Student
Health Services (Rm.912),
Student Activities (Rm. 914), Cabrillo Switch Board (Bldg.100),
or the
Student Resource Center, Watsonville Campus. Participants can also
register beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the
day of the event. Look for the red registration tent.
2. Chalk squares are approximately 4' x 6'. Registration is free.
Chalk distribution and sidewalk assignment begins at 8:45 a.m. on
the day of the event
3. Students working in small groups are judged in the student category.
Community
artists working in small groups are judged in the community artists
category.
Student and community organizations can be assigned up to two additional
squares.
Additional boxes of chalk can be purchased. There are no limitations
to the number
of group members. Each group must designate one member who is responsible
for
recording the names of his or her group members.
4. Participants may begin chalking their squares at 9 a.m. Artists
are encouraged to
begin promptly to ensure that they have time to complete their work
before the
judging at 1 p.m. Winners will be announced at 2 p.m.
5. Each drawing must remain in the designated square area(s).
6. Participants can use only chalk. Participants will be given
a box of chalk at
registration. You may bring additional chalk from home, as long
as it is
washable. Participants are not allowed to draw on buildings, trees
or any surfaces
other than their assigned squares.
7. Winning squares will be selected by a panel of campus guest
judges chosen by event sponsors.
8. Only student entries are eligible for the cash prizes and/or
gift certificates.
9. After the results are announced, winners are asked to remain
near their squares so
that photos may be taken.
10. Participants may be disqualified by judges or festival officials
for failure to adhere to contest theme or
to any of the above guidelines.
