from most division offices, or can be obtained directly from Student
Health Services. Please call us for questions.
After
Hours Medical Emergencies
- CALL 911 if needed Do not hesitate to call
if there is any question for the need of advanced life support,
if you are uncomfortable with the situation at hand, or are unsure
of the seriousness of the medical condition.
- Call the on-campus deputy between 7am to 12 midnight,
7 days per week. All deputies are First Aid trained and can triage
injuries or provide basic first aid. Call 479-6313 or 212-8464.
- Complete Accident Report Form: Instructors are
responsible for filing an Accident Incident Report for any
unusual occurrence happening in their classes. These forms are available
on the campus web at T:/forms/Accident-Incident Form or hard copies
are available in the mailroom. These forms are important communication
devices, confidential, and necessary for us to make sure that our
employees and students receive the coverage and services they need.
Please remember to fill these out for all on campus emergencies
or accidents. For employee injuries, these forms should be forwarded
to Sue Torres in HR, for student accidents they can be sent to the
Student Health Center or to Sandi Kent, in the VP Student Services
office.
- Have injured students contact the Student Health
Center. Cabrillo carries liability insurance for student injuries
on campus only as secondary insurance to whatever insurance the
student may already have. Students may have their injuries treated
at any medical facility they choose. No Cabrillo benefits can be
paid till the appropriate claim has been filed with our carrier.
Students should contact the Student Health Center for claim forms
on the next business day to assure coverage.
- Have Injured Employees Contact HR.
Workers Compensation claims must be filed with the HR office in
order to assure appropriate and timely coverage. Instructions for
Worker's Comp care access are posted in all departments on the "Notice
to Employees" poster.
Suggestions for your own peace of mind
Know where your nearest first aid kit and defibrillator
are located. First Aid Kits are located in all Division offices
and in approximately 25 other places around campus. Identify the
closest first aid kit to your classroom or office and check out
its contents. If it is in need of refilling, it can be brought to
the Student Health Center in Room 912 for re-stocking. We now have
7 defibrillators located around campus.
Consider becoming CPR or First Aid certified. CPR
classes are offered at the Aptos-La Selva Fire Department (call
685-6690 for schedule), the American Red Cross (462-2881) and Dominican
Hospital (462-7709).
Know your resources. Make sure you carry the number
for the Evening Administrator with you during evening classes. Get
to know your fellow nighttime instructors and co-workers and the
evening Sheriffs deputy. Review the First Aid guidelines posted
in the yellow flip charts on campus.
