I hope you enjoyed a restful winter break and I welcome you to the Spring Semester of 2005
Chewing Over Student Learning
Outcomes
I hope you are planning to attend the brunch and presentation of
Cabrillos plan to assess student learning outcomes across the college.
Please call your division office to make a reservation. The presentation is
on Tuesday, February 1st from 10:00 to 10:50 in room 450. The brunch and discussion
will be from 11 to12:30 and department meetings from 12:30 to 2.
2005 Instructional Planners
Those faculty members who are beginning the Instructional Planning Process this
February are invited to attend the planning workshop on Wednesday, from 9AM
to 1PM, in room 5010. Programs include Accounting and Finance, Art History,
Construction and Energy Management, Dance, Engineering Technology, English,
Geography, History, Learning Skills, Meteorology, Nursing, Sociology, CABT,
and ESL. This is a mandatory meeting for at least one member of each department.
Program binders containing specific program data will be distributed, lunch
will be served, and there will be a special session on Student Learning Outcomes.
Please contact Terry at 5077 or teprzyby to reserve a lunch.
2006 and 2007 Instructional
Planners
There will be two flex workshops on Wednesday, February 2nd for instructional
planners dedicated to Student Learning Outcomes and Core Competencies. Although
all are welcome to attend, representatives for the programs undergoing instructional
planning for 2006 and 2007 are required to attend at least one of these workshops
being offered. Since transfer programs and occupational programs have different
processes for assessment, the morning session (9-11 a.m.) will be dedicated
to transfer programs, and the afternoon session (1-3 p.m.) will be dedicated
to occupational programs.
Sacramento
Matters
Jennifer Baker (FACCC Lobbyist) has been invited to come to Cabrillo to make
a presentation entitled Sacramento Matters. The meeting will be
held on Friday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the Horticulture Center. She will
be laying out the aspects of the Governors budget that affects community
colleges and will be discussing the political implications. Provided you are
not scheduled to teach during this time, your attendance would enable you to
receive Flex credit.
Cooperative
Work Experience: Spring 2005 Information
CWEE FLEX for new & continuing Work Experience Instructors: Wednesday, February
2nd, Room 507, from 10 AM 12 NOON.
The first hour will be for new instructors interested in participating
in the Work Experience program this semester or in the future. This introduction

pay plan will be discussed. The CWEE Spring 05 student orientation schedule
is attached. Orientations (where add-slips are distributed) are mandatory for
participation in CWEE.
REVISED PAY SCHEDULE for all Work Experience Instructors: Beginning with Spring
2005, at the due date of the first student time card, all CWEE students will
be required to hand in their project paper. This mid-semester deadline will
also be after most 1st site-visits. At this mid-semester point all summary
reports will be sent from the CWEE office to the division deans for instructor

line with your regular instruction pay. For information please call 477-5650.

For Celebrating Diversity
CCFT, SEIU, Faculty Senate and other campus organizations will sponsor free
film showings which explore diversity on Mondays in Room 450 from 1-4 p.m. and
5-8 p.m. Two showings of two films will be shown each month as part of the nationally
designated celebrations of different ethnicities, genders and other underrepresented
groups.
All faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. You may want to encourage students to attend by providing extra credit, etc, if appropriate. Flyers for February showings will be in your mailbox. Fulbright
Scholar Program
For your information, the Instruction Office has the following publications
on file from the Fulbright Scholar Program:
The directories are to be used to identify and give recognition to both U.S. and Visiting Scholars on our campus. You may also wish to invite a Visiting Fulbrighter located elsewhere in the county to come to Cabrillo to lecture or to do a special presentation as part of the Fulbright Occasional Lecturer Program.
Graduation
Even as the spring semester begins, Student Services representatives are working
on graduation. Please join in the graduation ceremony on the afternoon of Friday,
June 3, 2005 by participating in the faculty procession. Everyone in the procession
is asked to wear a cap and gown representing his/her graduate school. If you
do not have a cap and gown or if you need replacement pieces, please do the
following: 1) Go to the Cabrillo Book Store OR call Christina Lawrence
at 5018; 2) Provide your name, the name of the college of your highest degree,
your height and weight. Order your cap and gown as soon as possible but no later
than Friday, May 6, 2005. Also, start thinking about a special student you would
like me to highlight at graduation.
I'm looking forward to seeing you next week.
