CCC System Strategic Plan
Meeting
Chancellor Drummond is hosting a number of statewide sessions to develop a strategic
plan for the community college system. The event for our region will be held
on May 3 from 9 to 3 in San Jose. So far, Brian King, Manuel Osorio, and Katy
Stonebloom will represent Cabrillo. It would be really valuable for as many
faculty members as possible to also represent our college. Please contact Debora
Bone (CCFT) or Rory OBrien (Faculty Senate) if you plan to attend. They
will forward the information to Brian King.
National Endowment of the
Humanitites
I am pleased to announce the selection of Shawn Ogimachi for participation
in the National Endowment of the Humanities (NEH) Landmarks of American History
Workshop, Working the Woods: Economies and Cultures in the Blue Ridge
Mountains, 1650-1950. The study, in residence, will take place at the
Ramsey Center for Regional Studies, Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, North Carolina
from May 29 June 4, 2005. This interdisciplinary and scholarly exchange
will examine three periods of Appalachian History and visit four historical
landmarks to provide a context to the economic and cultural development of this
region. I consider the opportunity to participate in an NEH study as an honor
and am certain Shawn will represent Cabrillo College with distinction.
Flex
Activity
Get ready for Fall 2005 Flex week now. Allan Lonnberg will be leading a book
discussion about "The God Of Small Things" by Arundhati Roy for a
Fall Flex activity. Copies of the this book are available at the Library Reserve
desk as Item #3710 and can be checked out for a week at a time.
Classroom
Survey a Success
Thank you to everyone for your hard work in getting the STUF (Student Update
Form) classroom surveys handed out and returned. We had a successful 95% return
rate! We received over 3,000 completed surveys which will help the college occupational
programs receive more than $300,000 in funding from the VTEA (Vocational Technical
Education Act) grant from the Chancellors Office for the next fiscal year.
By the way, if you still havent turned in your survey, theres still
time. Just return it to the mailroom anonymouslyno questions asked. If
you need additional survey materials for your classes, or did not receive a
survey but think you should have, please contact Evie Alloy at x6481 or evalloy_at_cabrillo.edu.
Thank you, again, for your participation in this classroom survey.
Republican
and Democratic Clubs
The Cabrillo College Republicans and Democrats are formally debating issues
of social security, immigration, nuclear proliferation and decency in the media.
The debate will be held on Tuesday, April 26th, at 2:00 PM in room 425. It would
be wonderful if you could tell your classes about this event. Thank you and
we hope to see you there.
