Instructional
Support Grants - Student Senate
The instructional supports committee of the Student Senate will be meeting this
Wednesday to decide what guidelines to set for the projects/materials they will
be funding for some of their departments this year. Tracey Van Gundy will immediately
inform the campus of their decisions as well as the timeline so that you can
all get your applications in. She would also like to ask for some input from
you on behalf of the Student Senate. Some Senators are currently requesting
enormous amounts of money for various projects and purchases, and though most
of them are able to point to how OTHERS could reduce the amount of money they
are requesting, nobody seems willing to reduce the cost of their own items on
the agenda. She knows our school has faced many rounds of budget cuts, and Tracey
is sure there are some really good stories out there about how different people
and departments have gotten brilliantly creative in order to save money. She
thinks if she could share a few of these stories with the Senate (stories they
can relate to because they are from Cabrillo), some of them might get inspired
to look for other types of solutions beyond just spending every penny they can
get their hands on. So please, if you can recall any such inspirational tidbits,
would you pass them along to her at asccpres_at_cabrillo.edu. Tracey may also
be reached at 479-6231 or 477-3219.
Dean
of Instructional Development
The college will soon begin actively recruiting to replace Loreen Easterly,
who resigned her position in February 2004. The job description and title have
been changed to reflect a combination of some of her duties with those of the
former Transfer and Distance Education Dean The new position is fully funded
as was Loreen's. It is my hope to have the new dean on campus early in the spring
semester.
