Program Planning
As always your one-page program plan update, signed by your
dean, is due by the last day of the semester. We all look forward to reading
about your programs.
Holidays at the Library
Stop by the Library on December 8, at 12:30 p.m. The Cabrillo Chorale, directed
by Cheryl Anderson, will be performing The Magnificat by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi
at the foot of the of the Library stairs.
Flex Calendar
The Spring 2005 Flex Calendar is online at http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/tlc/spring2005flex/
Please bookmark the page for future reference. A limited number of printed versions
of the calendar will be available in the mailroom and TLC beginning December
9. Thank you to the Staff Development Committee and the Faculty Senate for their
work on student learning outcomes activities. Also, a special thanks to Writing
Center Director, Diane Putnam, for assistance with editing, and Dani Boscarelli

LD Testing
During Wintersession
Do you know students who are having academic problems? Could it be a learning
disability? Wintersession is an easy time for many students to complete the
assessment process. There are openings now in the next intake on Wednesday,
Dec. 8. All other appointments will be scheduled during Wintersession. If you
have interested students, please have them call 479-6220 or go to the Learning
Skills Program Office, Room 1073, to sign up as soon as possible.
Further
LD Information
Since the Cabrillo web page has been revised, here are new directions for finding
information about learning disabilities:
Learning Differently: A Handbook for Students with Learning Disabilities at Cabrillo College; or Support Services for Students with Learning Disabilities at Cabrillo College: A Handbooks for Faculty and Staff; or the Learning Disability Screening Tool; or the Bilingual Version of the Learning Disability Tool (Spanish); or the LD Self-Screening Tool for Mathematics.
Journalism
50 and 53
David Sheftman will be the new faculty advisor for our college newspaper starting
this Spring semester. Believe it or not, many students on our campus do not
even know we have a college paper. He is hoping to increase enrollment in our
courses and has created an informational flyer which is attached. My hope is
that faculty will make an announcement in their classes regarding the workforce
and technology prep skills students can acquire by enrolling in Journalism 50
and 53. Thank you for your help in getting the word out to our students.
IMPAC
The Intersegmental Major Preparation Articulated Curriculum (IMPAC) project
is a unique intersegmental, faculty-designed and faculty-run project to ensure
that students transferring from the community colleges to UC and CSU are prepared
for work in their chosen major and can avoid having to repeat coursework.
The two specific objectives of IMPAC are:
IMPAC seeks to achieve the general objectives of increasing intersegmental faculty collaboration, strengthening the alignment of curriculum and the rigor of its delivery, building trust among faculty of the three segments, and serving students whose education is a shared mission of both the sending and receiving institutions. Please visit the IMPAC website http://www.cal-impac.org/Project/Project.htm for more information on how you can participate in IMPAC discipline meetings. Meetings are held throughout California-costs are paid for by the project. Your participation is essential to the future of your program!
Student
Learning Outcomes
I know many of you are concerned about writing your course SLOs and assessment
rubrics. There are several faculty who are willing to work with you on these
projects. They include Susan Hoisington, Dave Balogh, Sue Holt, and Marcy Alancraig.
Here is a website that will help you. It is the workbook written by
Marcy Alancraig. http://www.cabrillo.edu/services/pro/assess/assessweb/docs/SLO_InstructionalPlanningAssessmentProcess.pdf
