Instruction Notes

Michele Serros
Michele Serros will read on both the Aptos and Watsonville campuses on Monday, March 18th. At Aptos, she
will read in the cafeteria Fireside Lounge at 1 PM. At Watsonville, she will read in the Multipurpose Room at 6:30 PM. She will be available for discussion and autographs after both readings. She is an incisive writer and a lively reader, somewhat in the style of Mark Twain--humorous and vigorous. She has performed as a "spoken word" artist on the Lollapalooza music tour and has released a CD of readings from her first book. Serros has been called "a modern-day Moliere" and "one of the most distinctive and accomplished Latina voices in literature today."

Learner Outcomes Meeting
The next meeting is today at 3 PM in room 405. Here are some agenda items
    What exactly are learner outcomes?
       How can we measure them?
         Why should we do this?
Can we just say "Hell no we won't go!"?
Here is Topsy's learner outcomes website http://www.cabrillo.cc.ca.us/~tsmalley/learneroutcomes.html
This stuff is not going away!

The Budget
By new you have read President Hurd's memo regarding budget reductions. Division Chairs have met and will continue meeting with faculty and staff to identify places where we can reduce our expenditures, yet preserve quality learning and maintain enrollments----sure! The instruction component was asked to contribute 71% of the $500,000 goal. The discussion at this morning's Division Chair Council was very difficult yet productive, resulting in some concrete options. They will speak with you about these options and make recommendations to me in early April. After looking at all the options for the Instruction Component, I will develop the plan to deliver to CPC. As you work with your division chair, please look within your own department rather than targeting another.
