Reading across the Curriculum

(Formerly Reading in the Social Sciences)

During the 2015-16 academic year a group of instructors in the Social Sciences (Justina Buller, Teresa Macedo, and Michael Mangin) developed an Equity project with the goal of improving the instruction of reading in the Social Sciences. Working with members of the Planning and Research Office and the Department of Reading, the project was designed to publicize best practices for instruction, as well as an opportunity to understand the reading experiences of Cabrillo's students.

The project included developing, administering, and analyzing surveys to determine patterns of reading instruction and behaviors in ten different social science areas. Over 500 student surveys were submitted, as well as 38 instructors.

The findings of that research can be reviewed in the Narrative Summary of Survey Findings here.
