Admission Requirements:
All applicants for admission on F-1 visas must submit the following documents to the International Student Office:
- A completed International Student Application Form.
- A $60.00 non-refundable application fee.
- Official transcripts, certificates and diplomas from secondary and post-secondary educational institutions. Transcripts must be translated into English.
- Minimum TOEFL (Test of English as a Second Language) score of 450 paper based, 133 computer based or 45 internet based. Students who are interested in studying only intensive English as a Second Language are encouraged to contact the University of California Extension, Santa Cruz, English Language International.
- Financial verification demonstrating the availability of $17,056 to support a year of study. This proof must be in a the form of an official affidavit of support, bank statement, letter from a bank official and the Cabrillo College Confidential Financial Statement. All funds must be shown in U.S. dollars.
Students who are currently studying in the United States on F1 visas must also submit the following documentation:
- A copy of your I-94, I-20 and visa.
- A Cabrillo College transfer release form verifying that you have maintained full-time enrollment at your current school and are eligible to transfer.
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities you have attended in the United States.

Admissions Information and Immigration Regulations
Students who are accepted to Cabrillo College will be sent a form I-20, an acceptance letter and information package. This package will include a list of dates for assessment testing, course registration and a new student Orientation (see below for more information about the Placement Assessment and Orientation). The I-20 is the Immigration document issued by Cabrillo College, verifying that you have been accepted as a full-time student. Students who are overseas and need a F1 visa, must present the I-20, acceptance letter and financial verification form at a U.S. consulate or Embassy. Students who are currently studying in the United States must sign the new I-20 and return the top copy to the Cabrillo College International Student Office within the first two weeks of the semester.
- Students on F1 visas are required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) (former INS) to maintain full-time academic status. Full-time status is defined as a minimum course load of 12 units per academic semester during the fall and spring semesters. Summer and Wintersesson enrollment is optional.
- Students on visas other than F1 visas must make an appointment to see the International Student Advisor. Non-F1 visa holders are subject to different Immigration Regulations. Please call (831) 479-6200 to schedule an appointment.
Visitors arriving for 90 days without a visa are not eligible to study in the United States. If you plan to study, DO NOT enter on the 90 day visa waiver status. You will not be permitted to extend or change your status and you must leave the United States within 90 days.
Financial Information and Student Expenses
Applicants must provide verification of the availability of at least $17,056 for one academic year (10 months) of study.

*Tuition estimates are based on a minimum of 12 units per semester. Tuition and fees will increase if students enroll in more than 12 units.
The above expenses are an estimate only. Expenses will vary depending on the housing arrangements of each student and his/her personal expenses. For current semester per unit tuition costs, click here.
Tuition and living expenses for summer and winter classes are not included. Students should estimate an additional $4,000 for the summer session.
Cabrillo College is a state subsidized institution and cannot offer financial assistance to international students. International students are not eligible to establish California residency for the purposes of paying resident tuition. Students are required to pay international student tuition rates throughout the duration of study.
Tuition and fees are due and payable at the time of registration for classes. Fees may be paid with Visa, Master Card, Travelers Checks, Cash or local check.
International students are not permitted to accept off campus employment without official USCIS authorization. Students may work on campus, but jobs are limited and certain restrictions apply. Please see the International Student Office for further information.
Health Insurance and Screening Requirements
All students on F1 visas are required to have adequate health insurance while studying in the United States. F1 students who have been accepted to Cabrillo College will be required to purchase a health insurance policy through the college. Insurance premiums will be added to registration and tuition fees at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Premiums are currently estimated at $449.00 per semester.
All international students must present evidence of immunity to measles and rubella. Students may provided written documentation of immunization with MMR Vaccine, signed by a medical provider or students may obtain these immunizations at the Cabrillo College Health Center within the first two weeks of the semester.
International students must also obtain clearance for Tuberculosis before registering for classes. The Cabrillo College Student Health Center can provide Tuberculosis skin testing or students can provide written confirmation of negative skin testing or chest x-rays performed by a medical provider. Previous BCG immunization will NOT be accepted as proof of immunity.

Introduction to College Course
Students on F1 visas are expected to enroll in CG 51, Introduction to College for New International Students, during their first semester at Cabrillo College. This required class is designed specifically for international students. Class content includes information about immigration, the American education system, degree and transfer requirements, study skills and American culture and customs. Only students enrolled in CG 51 for new International Students will be granted authorization for on campus employment during their first year at Cabrillo College.
Placement Assessment
All students must take the Placement Assessment. You cannot fail this test. This test only shows students what level of Math and English they should choose.
Orientation
Students who are accepted to the college will receive an International Student Orientation Schedule with their acceptance packet. This orientation is mandatory for all new international students. During orientation, students will be introduced to college regulations, Immigration requirements and some cross-cultural issues. In addition, International Students will have the opportunity to meet college officials, members of the community, and also receive counseling and registration appointments.
