Witzig is the chair of the Adaptive Physical Education
Program as well as a respected and distinguished instructor. Her
expertise includes spinal chord injuries, acquired brain trauma,
and developmental delays. She is also the recipient of the 2004
Floyd L. Younger Award for Academic Excellence.
Anthropology
Rob
Edwards
Director, Archeology Tech. Program
Instructor, Anthropology & Archeology
HASS Division
Edwards is a renowned expert in archaeology and anthropological
studies. He is the director of the Archaeology Technology Program
at Cabrillo College and is a distinguished mentor in the field of
environmental issues, with particular emphasis on Native American
issues. He has completed extensive ethnographic training and fieldwork
in California and Micronesia, with academic and research interests
in settlement patterns, archaeological field methods, and cultural
resource management, with a geographical focus on historic and prehistoric
sites in California.
McFarland's interests span a multitude
of topics within the biological sciences, from anatomy to ape behavior.
She is an expert on human evolution and physiology as well as human
anatomy.
Homesley is an adjunct instructor in the Chemistry
Department at Cabrillo College. She is a specialized expert within
the field of molecular biology and has a Ph.D. in that field.
Communications
Dr.
J. Dan Rothwell
Chair, Communication Studies Department

HASS Division
A leader in the study of communications, Rothwell
has authored four textbooks on a multitude of different aspects
of communication, including public speaking, teamwork, nonverbal
communication and hyper-competitiveness. His expertise on conflict
management and gender differences in communication has led to research
on gender violence and the power of persuasion, especially when
applied to political campaigns and political strategies. He co-authored
a text on general psychology and is the chair for the Communications
Studies Department at Cabrillo College.
Larter is an international student advisor with a
vast array of knowledge in the area of international student information
and immigration. She provides detailed immigration and academic
counseling to students on visas and also counsels permanent residents
and U.S. citizens who have studied abroad.
Mekis is the Transfer Center director and has great
expertise in the areas of college admissions and transfer. Her knowledge
goes beyond the realm of UC and CSU transfers, expanding to private
and independent universities. She is a counselor and facilitator
of the different transfer admissions agreements, including guaranteed
admission to some universities. She can answer specific questions
regarding Cabrillo College's curriculum and how it translates to
other colleges and universities as well as the general process of
transferring.
Coe is a widely respected expert in English Literature.
Her specific expertise is in 19th Century British women novelists,
particularly Jane Austen. Her knowledge in that area has garnered
her much acclaim and she has taught numerous courses on the subject.
Dr. Marshall is a published poet, fiction writer,
literary critic, and nature writer. His work extends into the realm
of contemporary political issues as well as the creative and popular
literatures of France, Britain, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Costa Rica, and the U.S. Besides poems and stories, his current
projects involve the intersections between theories of nature, creativity,
and labor. Dr. Marshall is an accomplished amateur botanist and
mycologist, specializing in the mushrooms and flowering plants of
our area.

Holt

Holt is a life-long student of environmental issues
and has spent several years studying the environmental policies
of the United States and its affect on the world. She is an expert
in the field of mathematics, particularly in the area of statistics
and statistical analysis.
Mangin, history instructor at Cabrillo College, has
a deep-rooted enthusiasm for many aspects of history. They include
a broad range of topics, from U.S. History to Middle Eastern History.
His expertise includes U.S. slavery, women's history, and U.S. and
European politics. He has a Ph.D. in United States History and his
dissertation was Free Men in Theory: Race, Society, and Politics
in Ross County, Ohio, 1796-1850. His foray into European History
has established him among his peers and students as a leader and
pioneer in the study.

Johanna
Bowen
Director, Library and Learning Resources Center
Bowen is the director of Library and Learning Resources
at Cabrillo College. She has wide experience within the field of
library science, including access to information, library conduct,
and related information about the Patriot Act. Her responsibilities
include oversight of the budget, staffing, program planning for
library instruction, and library systems.

in the field of mathematics, particularly in the area of statistics

Nursing
Dr.
Debora Bone
President, CCFT
Instructor, Nursing
HWPEA Division
Dr. Bone is a respected instructor in the Nursing
Program and has extensive experience within the field of nursing
education. She is an advocate for women's health and is an expert
on birthing techniques and breastfeeding. Her interests span the
range of nursing and she is a knowledgeable proponent of the teachers'
union. Her clinical specialty is maternal-newborn nursing and she
has experience in pathways for midwifery training.
Brunngraber is an instructor in the Nursing Program
and has acquired extensive knowledge and insight in the field of
nursing. Her specialty is psychiatric and mental health issues.
She has numerous titles including RN, MS, APRN and BC.
Figueroa has a wealth of knowledge in the area of
particle physics. He has a PhD in particle physics and worked at
the Standard Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) for about seven years
doing research. In addition to his duties at SLAC, he, with a fellow
researcher at SLAC, reorganized and directed a summer internship
for undergraduate students from all over the country. They were
so successful that Department of Energy adopted their program and
used it as a model for other national laboratories. At last count,
there are about 30 different national laboratories throughout the
country that use this model.
Dr. O'Brien holds both a masters and a doctorate
degrees in political science and is a distinguished member of the
faculty senate at Cabrillo College. He has expertise in issues affecting
Cabrillo College as well as the budget situation. His interests
include various political issues and he is an expert on local, state,
and national politics and specializes in political theory and environmental
policy.
DeSpelder is an internationally recognized expert in death, dying
and bereavement. Among her many publications is the text The Last
Dance: Encountering Death and Dying, an interdisciplinary survey
of the field of thanatology.
Roden teaches about real estate finance, appraisal
and principles at Cabrillo College. He has been a broker for 25
years, and has owned his own real estate finance company for two
years.
