For the 09-10 flu season, it is estimated that 97% of the flu will be H1N1.
Here are some guidelines to keep us all as healthy as possible.
- If you are sick, ...STAY HOME!
- Don't come back until you have had 24 hours without fever and without fever-reducing
medicines
- Get your flu shots for H1N1 when they are available
- Wash your hands! Frequent hand-washing with soap and water is best. Alcohol
based sanitizer is an acceptable alternative. There is hand sanitizer in three
places in the MESA Center. Hand-washing is especially important before eating.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Cover those coughs and sneezes! It is best to cough or sneeze into a sleeve.
This traps germs in the fabric, where they dry and die.
- Social distance: avoid contact with people who are sick. Two arm lengths
or 6 feet is sufficient.
- Support your immune system by maintaining good health habits: eat well,
exercise, get plenty of rest, and minimize stress.
- Start by taking a few slow, deep breaths when you feel the stress creeping
up.
Instructors will accommodate illness, just notify them if you will be sick.
Do not go to class sick. Instructors and staff will encourage students with
fever, cough or sore throat to GO HOME.
Warning Signs of Serious H1N1 Flu symptoms: Seek immediate medical attention:
- difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
- pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
- sudden dizziness
- confusion
- severe or persistent vomiting
- flu-like symptoms that improve, but then return with fever and worse cough
