The Summer Energy Academy

PREP: Precalculus Readiness & Excellence Program

Internships & Support

was offered during the 2008-2012 summers. It provided intensive and fun exploration in energy, electricity and photovoltaics for students at the beginning of their college careers with a view to encouraging more students majoring in a STEM field. The Academy consisted of lab-based activities during 80 hours of hands-on learning and a community service project. Curriculum available on this site.

Look for a new EnvSci 30 course that will incorporate much of the Summer Energy Academy curriculum to be offered soon. It will meet the GE science requirement. a two-week intensive component held just before the semester begins, followed by weekly workshops accompanying a precalculus course that students take as a cohort. It gives students who are majoring in a STEM field the extra support needed to master the transition to college level mathematics. The program features intensive and fun explorations and students teaching each other. Offered every semester.

Recruitment in April-May and October-November for both student participants and student teaching assistants.

Applications are available on this website.

Internships are an important part of applying learning to real-life applications.

After participating in the Summer Energy Academy, or PREP, many students worked as Energy Interns, working on an on-campus project involving campus sustainability efforts, or a teaching assistantships in local math and science classrooms at the middle and high school level.

See for lots of information on current internship opportunities on university campuses.

Explore CWEE at Cabrillo for an on-campus experience that will prepare you for an internship elsewhere.
