Master Planning & You
This workshop will review the new college master plan and explore how the goals and objectives relate to deparments and individuals. We will address such important questions as: How does program planning relate to the master plan? What is the connection between budgeting and planning? How can my colleagues and I formulate and implement strategies that advacne the master plan objectives? The second half of the presentation will devote time to small group discussion followed by reporting out to the larger group. All participants will receive their own copy of the 2008-2011 College Master Plan.

All faculty members are invited to attend our breakfast meeting for a chance to network with colleagues, learn about adjunct issues, and discuss ways to promote part-time solidarity. Food and beverages will be served.

Budding web authors will learn how to use the program Dreamweaver to improve the function and appearance of their web pages both for online and on-campus classes. Learn how to use cascading style sheets and upload your course materials to the web.

Integrated-Skill Instruction
There are a growing number of English language learners in our classrooms. The integrated-skill approach exposes English language learners to authentic language and helps them develop language skills along with content knowledge. This workshop looks at how the integrated-skills approach can be used in CIS/CS classes.

Retirement Plan Options for Part-Time Faculty
Do you find yourself seeking more information about the retirement plans available to you at Cabrillo, but never seem to find the time to do the research? Representatives from the three retirement plans available to adjunct faculty will review the highlights of each plan and answer questions. Application for Sabbatical Leave: Writing a Successful Proposal
This is mandatory for all applicants who intend to submit an application (proposal) this fall for a sabbatical leave during 2009/2010. The chair of the Sabbatical Leave Review Board (SLRB) will describe the sabbatical application process, explain how to write a successful proposal and discuss the process and criteria by which applications are reviewed and recommended to the Governing Board.

WebAdvisor 101
WebAdvisor provides faculty with online access to their rosters, census, and more. This workshop is designed for new faculty and those who are still a little tentative with using WebAdvisor. A more advanced workshop for faculty who are already comfortable using WebAdvisor will be offered on Wednesday of flex week.

Sabbatical Leave Returnees: Writing a Successful Report
The chair of the Sabbatical Leave Review Board (SLRB) will explain the requirements of the report and respond to your questions about them. All those returning from a sabbatical taken during the 2007-08 have reports due this fall. You are encouraged but not required to attend this workshop.

Retention and Persistence—Research-Based Practices that Work:  DBA Experiential Learning Institute
Intensity and experiential exercises are proving to be key to retention and are enlivening student experience in college. Learn from students and faculty about the Digital Bridge Academy’s use of these methods. A discussion led by DBA faculty will focus on retention practices. Participants will take part in an experiential practice during the workshop. The DBA 2009 Winter Experiential Learning Institute at Cabrillo College will be discussed and the application process described.

Topics will include, but are not limited to, Health Care, delays in remuneration from STRS, Adjunct Teaching, Social Security Benefits, etc. Come join us for an informal discussion of your future and how to prepare for it. CHAC, the Cabrillo Hispanic Affairs Council, invites everyone to a presentation about our organization, Latinidad on campus, Latino/a serving student groups and  Latino/a issues. CHAC members and prospective members are also invited for a general brainstorming session about where to go next. Food, aguas frescas, amistad and good conversation.

New Adjunct Faculty Orientation
This workshop is designed for new adjunct faculty to introduce them to the college and familiarize them with college processes and procedures. How do you handle a waitlist? What about disruptive students? What accommodations might a student with a learning disability request of you? What is WebAdvisor and how are you expected to use it? Get answers to these and other questions and handouts vital to a successful first semester at Cabrillo. Don’t miss it!
