"Crossing Arizona": The Border Crisis Through Various Eyes
We will view the 2006 official Sundance Festival film "Crossing Arizona," which examines the border crisis from various perspectives. Then we will look at the tensionspolitical, cultural, and economiccreated by current immigration policies that often affect the lives of our students. Finally we will consider our roles as instructors in helping students understand the forces that trigger the dangerous and sometimes deadly crossings and the economic frameworks that undoubtedly favor the market and wealthy elite on both sides of the US/Mexican border.

Local Histories: Sharing Stories
Three Cabrillo faculty members from various departments will offer their knowledge of local history at this friendly discussion. Hear from Donna Mekis, whose new book will cover the history of the Croatians in the Pajaro Valley, Jeff Tagami, whose poetry has led him through the history of Filipinos in the county, and Chuck Smith, who spent part of his recent sabbatical exploring the local Indians' uses of medicinal plants in this region. We invite you to listen and share your stories too.

Individual Creativity in Math Teaching
Math department members will share and discuss their views and teaching/testing techniques for certain topics.  Anyone interested in the teaching and learning of any Cabrillo math topic is welcome to participate.

Apple’s iTunesU is a free, hosted service for colleges and universities. Cabrillo students can listen to and view podcasts on their Macs or PCs, or transfer content to iPod for listening or viewing on the go. Learn how podcasts are created using GarageBand software.

WebAdvisor - What's New for Fall?
This workshop will cover improvements, new functionality, and what's next in WebAdvisor. Faculty attending this workshop are already actively using WebAdvisor. Faculty needing information on the basics of logging in, printing rosters, and dropping students should attend the Monday workshop.

Math Learning Center Open House
Stop by for a snack and chat with us about how the Math Learning Center can help students in any of your classes requiring a bit of math. Experiment with learning aids that will be out on display and try multimedia applications for learning mathematics. The online tutoring white board will be set up for you to see how we tutor math students from wherever they happen to be. Student tutors will be available for you to meet. If you’d like to see how often your students visit us and which tutors work with your students during the semester, find out how to use the web-based instructor interface.  Computers with ModuMath, xyAlgebra, xySolver, Derive 5, and Maple will set up for you to try.

Refreshing the Library Collection
Come to the Library and help us update your collections. A librarian will identify the call number range of your subject area, and you will then review books on the shelves for their value and appropriateness for Cabrillo students today. Outdated, over-specialized, or otherwise questionable materials will be identified as candidates for withdrawal. This is also a perfect time to give us suggestions for books to add to the collection!
