Using Dreamweaver to Publish Your Website

Dreamweaver is a simple web publishing application. You can use it to build your site or just to transfer files between your computer and the campus Internet server.

You can download a trial version from Adobe or purchase an educational discount version from our bookstore.

Create a Site in Dreamweaver

  1. Start the program
  2. Create a Site to help Dreamweaver keep track of your files.
  3. Select Site->Manage Sites

  1. Select New->Site

Site name: your choice -- I recommend matching the site name to the firstinitiallastname address of your site (e.g. bboop)

Local root folder: navigate through your local hard drive to find the folder your web files are in. If you don't have any files yet, create a new folder where you want the files to be stored locally.

Ignore the other settings for now.

  1. Select Category->Remote info
  2. Enter your FTP settings.

  1. Click OK to close this box

Now that the site is created and the FTP information entered into Dreamweaver, connect to your site.

In the Files panel or on the toolbar, Click on the plugs icons to plug them in.

Click on the expand/collapse icon to see your local (on your hard drive) and remote (on the web server) files.

In the Local window, select the file you want to upload and use the arrow (blue) to Put your file on the web.
