Frequently Asked Questions about Registration

Q: WebAdvisor locked me out of my account after too many failed log-ins. Now what do I do?

A: Simply wait 20 minutes and try again.

Tip: If you are unsure of your password use WebAdvisor's "I Forgot My Password" link on the Log-In page to either view your password hint or request a temporary password. WebAdvisor will send the temporary password to the email address on file for you.

Q: The password I used to apply online does not work now that I am trying to register for classes, why?

A: The system you used to apply online is run by the XAP Corporation. WebAdvisor (the system you to register for classes) is run by Cabrillo College. Your passwords on each system are different.

Hint: The very first time you log-in to WebAdvisor your password is your birthday, in mmddyy format. After your first log-in you will need to change your password for security reasons.

Q: I want WebAdvisro to send me a temporary password, but the email address you have for me is wrong. How do I get it corrected?

A: Complete a Change of Personal Information Form and turn it in to Admissions & Records. Before we can make any changes our physical signature and either your Student ID Number or your Social Security Number. Unfortunately we cannot correct your records over the phone.

Q: I was supposed to receive an email with my temporary WebAdvisor password. Where is it?

A: Check the spam folder in your email. You may also call Admissions & Records at (831) 479-6201 to make sure your email address is correct in our system.

Q: I was placed on the waitlist for one of my courses. Does that mean I am in the class?

A: No. When added to a waitlist you are not yet registered in the course. Read more about waitlist procedure on the Apply & Register page of Admissions and Records. Be sure to scroll down the page to the Waitlist Procedure area.

Q: The system says I have a hold on my record and it won't let me register. What is the hold for?

A: Several common reasons for holds are listed below. If you need to find out what hold may have been placed on your account and what to do about it, please contact Admissions & Records at (831) 479-6201.

Common reasons why people are prevented from registering:

The student owes the college money.

The student has not attended for a year and needs to submit a new application.

The student's application to the college was incomplete.

The college was unable to verify the student's residency.

The student was placed on Academic/Progress Dismissal and has not yet met with a counselor.

Q: I can't complete my registration unless I add a corequisite. What is this and why do I need it?

Q: I have already completed the corequisite, do I need to take it again?

A: A corequisite is a course that must be taken at the same time as (concurrently with) another course. When you register for a class that requires a corequisite class, you must register for both classes at the same time or your registration will not be processed. If you think you have already met the corequisite requirement, contact Admissions & Records at (831) 479-6201 or submit your question online, using the link at the top of this page.

Q: I can't enroll in a course because it says my prerequisites have not been met. How can I register for this course?

A: A prerequisite is a course you must satisfactorily complete, or a body of knowledge you must master, before you can register for the course you want. You may still be able to enroll in the course if you can demonstrate that you have completed the prerequisite elsewhere or have already acheived adequate preparation in the subject. To show that you have completed prerequisites at another school, please send your documents (such as transcripts), to Admissions & Records, 6500 Soquel Dr. Aptos, CA 95003. Some prerequisites may be completed by taking an Assessment Test provided by the Assessment Center (831) 479-6165 or by challenging a course through the Matriculation Office (831) 477-3242.

Q: I took the assessment last week, but I can't register. What should I do?

A: Your assessment scores may not have been entered in the system yet. Please contact the Assessment Center at (831) 479-6165.

Q: The course I want to take is a repeat, how do I register?

A: Fill out a Petition to Repeat a course and register for the course in-person at Admissions & Records. Music majors may not need a repeat petition, but must still register in-person.

Q: I want to take two courses that slightly overlap in time. Can I do this?

A: It is possible to register for two classes that overlap if the courses do not overlap more than one and one half hours per week, and the two instructors involved agree. Complete a Course Overlap Petition and register in person at Admissions & Records. Follow the instructions on the form carefully. Be sure to have both instructors sign it. Californina law requires that the form state the exact amount of overlap time.

Q: My section was canceled. Will I get a refund?

A: Yes, you will receive a refund. Refunds will either be sent by check to the address on file for you, or your credit card account may be refunded directly.

Q: The class times/instructor on my schedule printout are different than what it says in the Schedule of Classes. Why is this?

A: Somtimes changes are made after the Schedule of Classes has been printed or published on the web. Your registration statement is valid as of the day it was printed. To find the most current information visit Search for Sections within WebAdvisor.

Q: I receive BOG, yet I'm told I owe money, why?

A: Your BOG may not be entered into the system. Contact the Cabrillo College Financial Aid Office at (831) 479-6415 (Aptos) or (831) 477-5100 (Watsonville) or view the BOG material on the Financial Aid Website. Please note that BOG covers tuition and does not cover all mandatory fees.

If your question has not been answered please feel free to call Admissions & Records at (831) 479-6201 or submit your question through the online link at the top of this page.
