Essays: Putting It All Together  

Essays, like most other forms of writing, are written to communicate something to the readers and keep them engaged in reading.

• To explain a process, impart information, or present research is called EXPOSITORY writing.

• To convince your audience (readers) of a particular point of view by presenting an argument in favor of a specific point is called PERSUASIVE writing.

You will probably be required to produce writing for these purposes through the course of your life--in college, at work, and in personal business although it may not take the form of an essay. Essay writing helps you practice honing your thoughts into writing that others can understand and appreciate.
