Break-out Sessions
(Cabrillo College students, administrators, faculty and staff )

(We are no-longer accepting applications for our break-out sessions.)

Break-out sessions are where you present your work. You may present a paper that you've written in class or a PowerPoint presentation that you've made after conducting original surveys and questionnaires; You may read a short story you've written or perform a scene from a play; You may display your artwork or perform live music; Overall you may use the break-out session to share your academic work, research project or artistic production and project.

Along with being your own original work, the subject matter of your presentation must address a social justice issue. Possible thematic topics include: environmental sustainability, discrimination, crime, domestic violence, racial injustice, globalization, political action and activism, identity, war, education, poverty, feminisms, gangs, health, environment, activism and all other topics that relate to creating an equitable society.

We hope to create a forum where ideas are exchanged, where freedom of expression is supported, and where we all come together to discuss the possibilities for an equitable future for our society. What this means in specific terms will be defined by conference participants.

Community Fair
(For any organization in Santa Cruz County with social justice as part of their mission statement.)

The Community Fair takes place in the outdoor Quad where each community group hosts an information table. Imagine conference attendees milling around tables staffed by numerous organizations that work toward social justice in the greater Santa Cruz community. Students, administrators, faculty, staff and attendees are chatting at your table, picking up literature, signing up for your email contact list, and perhaps even volunteering their time. We hope that the Community Fair presents local organizations an outreach opportunity at our campus.
