Class Description:
Physics 10 is a survey course in physics that is designed to acquaint students with the basic principles of physics and applications in the modern world. We hope to give you a greater understanding about yourself and the world around you through physics. There is an emphasis on using demonstrations when possible. The course focuses on conceptual understanding and the relationship between the textbook topics and real-world experiences of the general student population. Physics 10 syllabuses will cover topics from some ideas that relate to your everyday life, including motion, energy, sound, electricity, matter, light, space, and time.
Physics 10 is largely nonmathematical, but we will use simple formulas to guide our thinking without solving equations. You are always encouraged to ask questions during lecture and the class is intended to be fun! Some basic ideas will appear many times and apply to many seemingly diverse topics. This unity of concepts is what we are seeking. You will enjoy it. |

Homework Assignments:
Exercises from the end of the current chapter will be assigned and collected about every week. There will be nine homework assignments over the course of the semester. Homework questions will be discussed in class. Your success in the class will depend largely on the effort you invest in these.
Quizzes:
A 15-minute quiz will be given at the beginning of class the day homework is collected. Each quiz will test you on the concepts in that set only.
Class Participation:
Hands-on experience of the phenomena is the best way to learn about our world. Your attendance and eager participation in the class will help you learn, and thus it should also help your grade. I hope to know you all within a few weeks, and will become aware of who is taking part. Be greedy; get what you have paid for - always come to class!

There will be two major exams and a comprehensive final exam. Each exam will cover material from the lectures and text. Each exam will be preceded by a review session. The final is comprehensive and will be homework exercises and exam questions done throughout the semester. A written excuse (medical, legal, etc.) must be provided if an exam is missed - preferably prior to the exam. |

Ask Questions!
Ask your instructor, ask your class mates, ask your friends, consult a book, etc. Appreciating and understanding physical principles will depend completely on how much you want to know! Class discussions are WELCOME and STRONGLY ENCOURAGED. |
Be Prepared!
Study your notes and read the material in the text before we cover it in class. This will help you keep up, will make for more productive classroom interaction, and will help keep you prepared for quizzes and exams. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER wait until the night before a exam to “begin” studying. See your instructor if you are stuck. |
