TEXTBOOKS AND SUPPLIES

Yacht 15e Computer Accounting with Peachtree by Sale Complete, 2011, 15th Edition,Carol Yacht, McGraw-Hill, ISBN 978-0-07-750503-5. An educational version of the Peachtree software is included with the text; therefore, you do not have to purchase the software and can complete all the assignments off campus, if desired.

College Accounting, 12th Edition, Chapters 1-30, Price, Haddock, and Farina, ISBN:978-0-07-340166-9 - This is the same text used in Acct 151A.

Yacht 14e If you prefer and can obtain the prior edition of the Peachtree text, it is fine - you should be able to get a better price. Computer Accounting with Peachtree by Sale Complete, 2010, 14th Edition,Carol Yacht, McGraw-Hill, ISBN for text that includes the software = 978-0-07-740874-9 .ISBN for text only = 978-0-07-352714-7. Be certain, however, that the software is included if you plan to do the work off campus. If you purchase a used text and the the software was installed by the prior owner, you will not be able to install the software on a different computer. Also be aware, that some of the page numbers may be different and there are some minor differences in the numbers used for the projects. When you submit assignments, you will have to specify you are using the 14th edition. You will have to decide if the price savings is "worth it". Only the 2011 version of the software will be available in the computer labs; if you start a company using 2011, you will probably not be able to open it using 2010.

If you will be using the Computer Technology Center to complete the work, you can save your files in the "cloud" or use your own Flash Memory Device. Peachtree will be installed on the network so you can access the software from either the Aptos or Watsonville campus. There will be a Peachtree text on reserve in the CTC on the Aptos campus for your use with a 4-hour check-out period, due by close (subject to change if deemed necessary). The CTC is open extensive hours but is closed for some of the Holidays so be sure to check their schedule and work ahead if necessary to enable you to submit your work on time. Assignments are due on Mondays, even if it is a Holiday.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING

College Accounting:
You are expected to read the eight assigned chapters and complete the exercises and problems. You will have free access to Homework Manager to check your solutions; this is not required and is not worth any points. There will be a quiz for each assigned chapter. See the tentative schedule for the chapters and due dates. All exams will be completed online via the Blackboard Assessment tool. They will consist of Multiple Choice and True/False questions. You will be given a one-week "window of opportunity" (12:01 a.m. Tuesday to midnight Monday) to complete these exams. No make-ups will be given for late exams.

Peachtree textbook:
Make a backup file of the Peachtree sample company, Bellwether Garden Supply, BEFORE you record any transactions (the text explains how to create the backup in Chapter 1, just follow the instructions).

The end-of-chapter exercises and projects should all be completed with the exception of the "A" projects. A link to the check figures is provided above. Of the work completed on the Peachtree program, only the projects will be collected and graded. When creating the projects always use your name in the company name (i.e. Cheryl Furbee, Accountant and Cheryl's Sports). In addition, a company analysis and simulation will be required; these will be provided by the instructor. It is expected that you complete all your own homework, but working with classmates is encouraged. For grading purposes, you will export to Excel the Income Statement (with no zero balances) and Balance Sheet from each project. Create the text Progress Report from each project on the third sheet of your Excel file. Submit ONE file as an attachment via the Blackboard Assignment Tool. Late work will NOT be accepted. The text also includes web assignments. You are NOT required to do them unless specifically indicated. Assignment details will be provided via Blackboard.

NOTE: You are not required to print most of the documents; do so for your information only. If you do not want to print the invoices, checks, etc., be sure to type in an invoice number or check number. Without the number, the document may not post accurately. The program is designed to post when the document is printed if no number is assigned.

Company Analysis:
Using the sample company from the Peachtree program, you will search for information related to the accounting data. This will be based on the sample company included in the program. Be sure you save this company before you start posting transactions.

Simulation:
Using the Peachtree Program you will complete a simulation created by the instructor.

Research and Discussion:
Web sites and/or research relevant to the course objectives will be assigned via Blackboard. You will be required to participate in discussion topics regarding these assignments.

The Pass/No Pass (P/NP) option is available by notifying the instructor.
