COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING
Excel is the spreadsheet program of choice for Santa Cruz employers as well as elsewhere; you can use either the 2003, 2007, or 2010 version to complete the assignments. The Computer Technology Center, has the two newer versions. Instructor created videos demonstrate the 2007 version.

Communication:
Blackboard will be used for communication. It is required that you log on the website at LEAST twice a week and participate in discussions and questions. It is also the site where you will complete the online quizzes.

Homework:
Certain chapters in the College Accounting text will be required. Selected exercises and/or problems will be assigned and must be completed using Excel. Some will be revised to allow the use of special Excel functions. Be sure to make these revisions. Complete the assigned exercises/problems using an interactive spreadsheet. Submit your solutions via the Blackboard assignment tool. These must be completed using Excel (MS Works will NOT work). If you are using a Mac, be sure to save your file with the .xls (97-03) or .xlsx (07/10) extension so the instructor can open it with a PC.

WARNING: There are videos created by the instructor that provide guidance and explanation to help you understand how to do some of the required formulas, functions, etc. These are based on using a PC. If you are using a Mac, the steps can be very different. This, of course, complicates the homework. The instructor does not have a Mac so little help can be given. If you have access to a PC or want to use the lab, you will save some time. Of course, it is good to learn to use Excel for Mac but expect to take more time and have more frustration.

Quizzes:
There will be a quiz for each chapter covered in College Accounting. These quizzes will be completed online via Blackboard. You will be given a one-week "window of opportunity" to complete the quizzes (12:01 a.m. Tuesday through 11:59 p.m. Monday). There will be no make up of a quiz so be sure to plan your schedule.

If you decide to drop this class, it is your responsibility to officially withdraw to avoid a letter grade. Excessive absences and/or failure to accurately complete five or more weekly assignments throughout the semester may result in being denied access to Blackboard. This denial may be followed by a drop from the course at the instructor's discretion. However, if the instructor does not initiate a drop, it is your responsibility to withdraw or receive an F grade. Pass/No Pass (P/NP) is available by making arrangements with the instructor.
