Assignment 1 - Student Account, GMail Address, Student Profile

Activity #1- Student Account; User Name & Password
Create your student account Login as shown below. A Login consists of: 

    1. a Username
    2. a Password

This will be used each time you:

  • logon to a computer at Cabrillo college in the classroom or the CTC
    • When on campus, it will give you access to the Internet, several browsers (SeaMonkey, Firefox or Internet Explorer), Composer (for making webpages), your student folder and my instructor folder - which may contain files, graphics, goodies & links, and other things.
  • It will be used for access to Webhawks, our campus wireless network (if you bring a laptop)
  • It will be used for logging into Blackboard whether on campus or at home.

Follow the instructions below and create your own account for logging into Blackboard as follows:

  • Create you student account:
    • using the desktop computer in the classroom opening a browser and typing "lookup" in the URL window
    • or at the CTC (Computer Technology Center), building 1400 using the Accounts Lookup Computer and opening a browser and typing "lookup" in the URL window
    • or when at home, when looking at this webpage: Click here on the CTC Website link then click on "Lookup username and password" link on the left.
  • Enter your own information (you will need your Student ID#)
  • Enter "Last Name"
  • Enter "Date of Birth" (MMDDYY)
  • Enter "Student ID" or Datatel ID (NOT SS#)
  • Enter password (student creates their own password; Note: if you forget your password repeat these steps and create a new one)
  • Submit (click once and wait!)
Activity #2 Getting a Web-based Email Account Gmail

Getting a Free Web-based Email Account - Use gmail from Google for this. We will be using Google for other purposes and it is necessary to have this account.

You should review and compare other free Internet email providers. I've included a directory of free eMail providers (the link) and some popular and recommended sites (the chart of links) below.

Please review several and but then choose Google gmail. Follow the direction at that website to sign up for a free email account and to get an email address (email name) for class use.

  • Free Email Address Directory (this is the site that lists 700 or so free places to get email)

Once you have established an email account, fill it in on this form below in #2.  Make a note of it for yourself (in writing) very carefully--capitals must capitalized; lowercase has to be lowercase.

Please fill out the following form onscreen and click on the button at the end of the form when finished. Be sure to answer all questions. Do not send the form more than once, please, unless it is necessary due to errors.
