Directions: With your browser window open, follow the directions for each Activity and fill in the answers on the screen in the appropriate anwser box. When done, go to the bottom of the the page and click on the button to email the answers to me.

Please Note : It is a good idea to print this assignment before following the screen directions. Another way to do the assignment is to have two browser windows open or two tabs and do the steps in one and switch to the other for entering your answers. I suggest you try this.

Activity #1 Netiquette, copy text into an email, insert a link, mail to yourself...

Open a browser tab or window. Follow the directions then answer the following questions.

Activity #1 - Go to your textbooks Interlit website http://www.udel.edu/interlit/chapter5.html and navigate to Chapter 5, Internet Etiquette (Netiquette).

Find The ten Commandments of Internet Ethics. (Hint look in CPSR)

Open your email software (Your free Web eMail at gmail)

Copy the whole section, paste it into an email composition window.

In the Browser URL window, click on and hold the icon next to the URL. Drag and drop it into the eMail Composition Window to create a link.

Format some of the text or in other ways alter the text and email it to yourself and to me.

Check for New Messages and read the message you just sent yourself.

In the space below, note in general what the email to yourself looked like, what changed from the original as sent to the email received and did the links that were highlighed stay as active links in your email to yourself?

Activity #2 Email, copy an image, insert it into the email (not attached) and insert a link ...

Activity #2 - With your browser open and connected to the Internet, click on the Search button or magnifying glass icon on the browser's toolbar and a page will load with a "search engine" selected... OR use the small window to type in the following search keywords: free +graphics

The search engine will return a list of links for you to choose from. Choose one or browse through several sites until you find a fairly small (approximatley one square inch or slightly larger) graphic image you like.

Another quick way to find images is to go to Google's website and click on "Images" before you search instead of the "Web" choice in the menu and then search for Images based on a subject. (i.e. Italian Soccer Jersey) Google

Copy it as follows:

To download any individual image, move your cursor over the image of your choice, click your right mouse button and select "Save Image As..." or "Save Picture As...." .

click here for instruction on resizing and converting Gif images.

Save it to your zip disk or hard drive. (I usually save to my desktop then create a folder for them) Be sure to either rename the file as you save it or remember the name the file already has.

Send an email message to me using my class Email account name cabrillodave@gmail.com Include the following in that email to me:

A link to the page where you got the graphic image

Insert the image into the email message

A text message about what you found in your search

Activity #3 Opening and sending Email attachments and forwarding email messages...

Activity #3 - I will email you a message at your class email address with several attachments. Open the attachments and explore them. Save them, if you can, on your hard drive or a floppy drive with the pictures you found.

Forward the message I sent you to yourself. Open the forwarded message and see if the attachments came with the forwarded message.

Send me an email at the following address daambros@cabrillo.edu with the following:

A new email text message describing what you did with the attachments I sent you and describing what happened when you forwarded the message to yourself

Send me an attachment (something you found, created or one of the files I sent you)

Request a "return receipt" if you can with gmail

Send it to me as "highest priority" if you can with gmail

NOTE: Your email may not allow return receipts and priority options, particularly if you are using Web Email
