Create a Logo to Use Repetitively On Most Pages

A Logo is a Marketing and branding identification tool. It is your domain name and store name. It can differentiate your website and position your website comparatively with other websites.

Think about your domain name in terms of:

* familiarity and branding,
* indicating what you do or offer
* recall for the customer in finding you,
* the path the customer might try to type in the browser window if they don't know where you are hosted (what server),
* for protecting your name from use by other businesses.

Find some free graphics and use Paint to create a simple logo

I'll use the following graphics I found using a Google Image search to demonstrate making a simple logo with Paint for a Whale Watcher's Website.

Demo11WhaleTail | Demo11Whale2 | Finished Example

I'll combine the two graphics and add the title Whale Watchers.

  • Open paint twice
  • Open both graphics, one in each window
  • Stretch the canvas in the first window
  • In the second window choose Edit > Select All then copy the whale
  • Go back to Window 1 and paste the whale
  • Add text and save

Create a 2nd Tier Menu Bar to Use Repetitively On Most Pages

Menu bars commonly are: either text or icons or both.

Text Menu - each word is linked

Home | Syllabus | Class Sessions | Assignments | Grading | Links | Blackboard | FAQs

Iconic Menu held in a single cell table - each icon is linked, the table background is Flat Black

Steps

1. Find graphics to use for your icons THEN do one of the following two choices:

2. Open Composer and make a one cell table

3. Insert a one cell table into a Composer Window

4. Insert all the graphics and resize them (about 50 x 50 pixels)

5. Link them and save the page.

6. Open the page and copy the graphic with the links onto the new pages each time you make a page OR put it into a template page (See next item below)

Create a Page Template to Use Repetitively On Most Pages

Use Composer to construct a table from your Comp sketches that you can re-use and/or modify for pages throughout your website. . Usually you have a main template for the Home page and then modify it for one or two more levels or branches.

The template will be built from the following elements:

  • Table Structure
  • Color Scheme
  • Personality & Aesthetics
  • Repetitive Elements

Build a template and then save it in your root folder. You will use this to replace pages in your wireframe.

The following are the templates for this Cabt161 course:

I have included templates and other content for you to use if you like in the Blackboard Media Library.
