Software Questions

I have a Mac, can I still take the class?

Yes! But, you will have some difficulty. Though HTML websites and graphics are platform neutral, the classroom computers are PCs. You will need to find your own software to use for working on graphics and for uploading files to the webpage server.

What software will we use in class?

Firefox or Internet Explorer Browsers -

Firefox Free Download | Explorer Free Download

Sea Monkey Composer - Free Download

Microsoft Office Picture Manager - MS Office Tool

Windows Photo Gallery

Windows Accessories - Paint & Notepad
(Mac = CorelPainter & PaintBrush 2.0.1 | TextEdit or Simple Text)

Core FTP - Free Download (Mac = CyberDuck 3.4)

Blog Site = Free Google Blogger Website Tool - Blogger

Blackboard Online Learning System - Blackboard

What other software might I want?

If you've never made a Web page, you will learn to do so using an authoring tool called Sea Monkey Composer. Later you may want to try a more advanced authoring tool like Mozilla's NVU, MS Frontpage, or Dreamweaver .

Blackboard Questions

Which Browsers and Operating Systems are supported by BlackBoard?

Blackboard doesn't support (run correctly) on all browsers and operating systems: some because they are too old, some too new or not yet popular enough. Click on these links: to see what browsers and operating systems are supported by Blackboard.

Is there help with BlackBoard?

Yes, there is Help Desk Support. The TLC’s Blackboard Help Desk is staffed Mon-Fri 8-5, Fri 9-3, and provides email and web support. It is staffed by student assistants who have taken classes using Bb. Student emails are answered the first weekend of the new term by Francine. A new TLC position was submitted to HR for classification study. It will include Blackboard admin duties not previously outlined in an LIA position.

Also, you can view "students tutorials" http://booboo.webct.com/student/ that explain Assessments, Assignments, Discussions, and other tools on Blackboard (aka WebCT).
