LEX 4 - Develop a Site Personality, Domain Name, Site 's Main Pages

Part 1 - plan elements and ideas that will define a feel and personality for your site.

  • What messages should your site send?
  • Will it be playful or serious, persuasive or entertaining, mature or youthful, Midwestern or urban, etc.
  • Consider the following in your answer and any other criteria that helps you in developing a Site Personality:
    • Tone
    • Navigation
    • Usability
    • Value to User
    • Age Appeal
    • Color Scheme
    • Organization
    • Aesthetics
    • Use of Graphics
    • Functionality

Note: A good way to generate ideas is to find sites that you like and use them for inspiration. Maybe you like the navigation scheme of a site. Perhaps the glossiness of buttons or icons. Perhaps you found sites with color schemes that inspire you. Yet another site is noted for its functionality. You may find a site that amazes you with how much content is effectively organized onto the page or another that does a lot with simplicity and only a little content on a lot of "white space."

Part 2 - Choose a domain (or several possibilities) for your website.

  • What is your Domain Name choice(s)?
  • In what ways does this domain name (s) work for you in establishing the a site personally
  • indicating what your site does or sells
  • who it is target for
  • who it is made for as an audience or multiple target markets.

Part 3 -Begin to Plan & Design Your Site

3a. Home Page - list the content, aka - content map, an outline of content for the Home Page of your eCommerce site. i.e. a list of the things you think you will have on it. Describe as necessary.

3b. List your main pages for your eCommerce website and give a page title and file name for each. Briefly describe the content for each page.

Note: Look at the following sample plan I did many years ago as the first draft for this courses Website to get some ideas for visualizing your site design and pages. sample

Also, look at sites online for creative ideas, themes and layout of content, and so on.

Note: you can cut and paste these questions into the turnin link in Blackboard and then type your answers.
