Directions:

Pick or Create a Page Template to Use for Your Home Page  

Use Sea Monkey's Composer to construct a Home Page from your Comp sketches. Usually you have a main template for the Home page and then modify it for one or two more levels or branches.

The template will be built from the following elements:

• Table Structure
• Color Scheme
• Personality & Aesthetics
• Repetitive Elements.

The following are the sample templates for the Cabt161 course:

I have included templates and other content for you to use if you like in the Blackboard Media Library. Pick one or make your own as per the directions below.

Directions - When you make the Home Page, give it a page title, save it as index.html.

Open Sea Monkey on your computer > Click on Window in the text menu > choose Composer

A blank page opens ready for you to type in.

Make a Webpage with Composer 

• 1. Open Composer and Make 2 pages:
  • home page: Use one of my Templates for your : Template4xMergedCenterTable.htm (My Choice)

  • 2nd page: Add a Table that is one row 600 or 800 pixels wide and one column long (width = "pixels" setting, not "% of Window"), turn the border off and type all your content into the table as well as any content we add to the page.
    
• 2. Add some text Then hit the "Return" key several times
• 3. Add the Menu Bar: Home | About Us | Shop

• 4. Add a graphic in the upper left hand corner and Resize it (use my class logo and save it to your Graphics folder if you don't already have a graphic you want to use in there)
• 5. Change the text font, Change the page background color
• 6. Change the table background color or at least the color of one or more cells
• 7. Give the Page a page title
• 8. Insert a horizontal line at the page bottom and insert the © symbol and a sentence claiming this work as yours.
• 9. Save the pages to your Root Folder as index1.htm and aboutus.html respectively

NOTE: do as much of this as you can. You will continue to modify this page for Worksheet 5 and

Test Your Page

Close Composer

Double click the home page file

Pay attention to what software it opened in when you double clicked the file? (was it Composer for editing or the browser for viewing?)

Turn in Directions - Open Blackboard and do the following:

1. Attach the index.html and aboutus.html files
2. In the Blackboard window, briefly describe your experience, at least 100 words, and submit the assignment
3. copy your folder into my Faculty Turn in window from your Flash drive. Note: you must be on a campus lab or classroom computer to access my faculty turn-in folder. I'll demo tis in class.

Note: you can cut and paste these questions into the turnin link in Blackboard and then type your answers.
