Activity #1 Begin to Design a Site

Look at the following sample plan I did as the first draft for this course Website to get some ideas for visualizing your site design and pages. sample (Refer to PoPs for an extra credit option) Also, look at sites online for creative ideas, themes and layout of content, and so on.

Make a content map, an outline of content for the Home Page of your eCommerce site.

* Home Page - list the content, the things you think you will have on it. Use a bulleted list.

 

 

 

 

 

* List your main pages for your eCommerce website and give a page title and file name for each. Briefly describe the content for each page. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Activity #2 Planning Technology
MyBusinessPlan - Directions:
In your Website for your Business Plan, open the page titled "Business Plan", filename = busplan.html, and add a section to the page titled "Planning for Technology, Consultants and Personal Skills". Answer the questions below and include the questions and answers on your Business Plan page.  
"Planning for Technology, Consultants and Personal Skills"
* Answer the following questions: Remember: This is a first "rough idea" draft, a first try at visualizing your Business Website. Don't get stuck on decisions. Get something going. You can change it and fix it all you want.
1. a. Will you run/own your own server?

 

b. If not, what services and technology will you want from a Web Host?

 

 

 

 

 

2. Who will design your site?

 

 

3. Who will maintain your site and how extensive of a process will this be?

 

 

4. Will you accept orders online? 
a. If so, will you use secure commerce and a shopping cart, e-mail or other interactive technology?

 

 

b. If not, what method (s) will you use? (M.O.T.O, etc.)

 

 

 

5. Will you want or need to interface (connect) your Web site with existing databases or with new or existing order, accounting, inventory, or customer databases?

 

 

6. How will you connect to the Internet; what sort of modem, T1 line etc. connection will you need with your ISP to upload the site? 

 

 

7. Who is your typical customer you will design for and what technology will they use?

 

 

 

 
Activity #3 Begin a Storyboard

Using the information from  Activity #1 above, begin to create a storyboard for your site. Indicate some design content/elements and page functions for each page and NAME each page with: 1) a page title and 2) a file name.

I suggest you either:

  1. do it with post-it notes and then, when satisfied with your first draft, write it out like an organizational chart and attach it to this page as a parent/child hierarchy. - or -
  2. submit it as is if it is portable or can be copied as post-it notes.
